In October 2026 prices run from about €3,150 a month for a studio to about €6,600 a month for a one-bedroom in De Pijp. Most apartments ask for a minimum stay of two months; a few studios and one-bedrooms in Amsterdam Noord accept one month.

Who rents furnished in Amsterdam

Most guests are starting a job in the city, on a corporate assignment, or relocating and need an address while they look for a long-term home. The unfurnished rental market in Amsterdam is tight and landlords usually want local documents before signing a lease. A furnished monthly rental lets you arrive, register your address, open a bank account and search in person.

Registering your address and getting a BSN

If you will live in the Netherlands for more than four months, you must register with the municipality within five days of arriving. Registration gives you a BSN (citizen service number), which employers, banks and health insurers ask for. You can only register at an address where registration is allowed, so check the listing before you book. Shorter stays can register as a non-resident (RNI) to get a BSN.

The 17th-century canal ring, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with apartments on streets such as the Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Kerkstraat. Everything is within walking distance. It is also the busiest part of the city with visitors, especially in summer.

West of the canal ring: narrow streets, small canals, independent shops and the Saturday farmers' market on the Noordermarkt. Quieter in the evening than the centre while still a few minutes' walk from it.

De Pijp

South of the centre, around the Albert Cuyp Market, which runs Monday to Saturday, and Sarphatipark. Dense with cafés and restaurants. The North-South metro line (52) stops at De Pijp station, about ten minutes from Centraal.

Amsterdam Noord

Across the IJ river from Centraal Station, reached by the free GVB ferries or metro line 52. Newer buildings, more space for the price, and the NDSM wharf with its studios, flea market and waterfront bars. Several one-month minimum listings are here.

Houthavens and Nieuw-West

Houthavens is a newer waterfront district on the former timber harbour west of Centraal. Nieuw-West is larger and residential, with lower prices and tram links into the centre.

Getting around

Direct trains from Schiphol Airport reach Amsterdam Centraal in about 15 minutes, and trains run between them through the night. Inside the city, GVB runs the trams, metro, buses and the free ferries across the IJ. You can pay on all of them, and on Dutch trains, by tapping a contactless bank card. Most residents cycle; renting or buying a bike in your first week is the most practical way to get around.
