Travel guide to Lima

Clifftop parks, ceviche lunches and surf before work

Mornings on the Malecón running or surfing the Costa Verde, lunch at a cevichería, and evenings in Barranco's bars and galleries. Miraflores and San Isidro are walkable and well serviced, Barranco is slower and artier, and the whole coast strip is linked by the Metropolitano bus line and cheap app taxis.

Remote-ready snapshot

  • Same time zone as New York in winter (UTC-5, no clock changes)
  • Surf the Costa Verde below the Miraflores cliffs
  • Ceviche lunches and two of the world's top restaurants
  • Sunny summers Dec to Apr, almost no rain all year

Best time to stay

December to April is Lima's summer: sunny, 26 to 29°C and beach season on the Costa Verde. June to October brings the garúa, a grey coastal mist with 15 to 19°C days, but it almost never rains.

Internet

Fiber is common in Miraflores and San Isidro apartment buildings. Check the listing for a stated speed and a desk before booking a long stay.

Getting around

The Metropolitano bus runs along the Vía Expresa from Barranco through Miraflores to the historic centre. Uber, Cabify and InDrive are cheap, but traffic is heavy at rush hour, so live close to where you spend your days.

Arriving

Jorge Chávez International Airport opened a new terminal in 2025. Allow 45 to 90 minutes by car to Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco depending on traffic.
